Firing at a large rock like that is dangerous to life if you are then going to sleep under it. This is not something you should do regardless of the situation

My first instinctual thought, as well. Fire or not (but especially with a fire changing the structure)--do not sleep underneath! I thought it would be for sleeping above the heated rock.
